The Director-General of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Prof. Charles Anosike, joined global meteorological leaders in Beijing, China, for the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) High-Level Dialogue on Climate Science Information for Climate Finance and the 53rd Senior Official Field Exchange (SOFE).
The high-level international gathering, held from September 14 to 18, 2026, brought together key stakeholders to address pressing global challenges relating to climate resilience, resource mobilisation and advanced disaster risk reduction strategies.
The dialogue focused on strengthening the leadership and operational capacity of National Meteorological and Hydrological Services (NMHSs) to mobilise vital climate finance.
Discussions centred on aligning scientific and technical capabilities with risk-informed, people-centred early warning systems, while transitioning from traditional technical assistance towards sustainable investments.
Participants also explored ways to expand practical cooperation between meteorological institutions and multilateral financing entities to strengthen strategic institutional leadership.

Following the dialogue, delegates travelled to Fujian Province for the 53rd Senior Official Field Exchange.
The field exchange provided participants with first-hand exposure to China’s implementation of the Multi-hazard, Alert, Zero-gap and Universal (MAZU) platform.
The AI-driven meteorological early warning solution supports the global Early Warnings for All (EW4All) initiative and offered delegates insights into advanced disaster risk reduction practices through technical exchanges, peer learning and field visits.
