The Wife of Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo distributed empowerment items, including cash to nine inmates at the Anambra Rehabilitation Home in Nteje, in Oyi Local Government Area of the state, certified medically fit to return home after their stay at the facility.
Soludo, who made the donation when she visited the rehabilitation home on Sunday, expressed excitement over the recovery of inmates.
The nine beneficiaries, having completed their rehabilitation programme and deemed fit for reintegration, were formally reunited with their respective families in the presence of government officials, the management and staff of the Centre, and community members.
Among the items distributed to the inmates were bags of baking powder, flour, gallons of groundnut oil, and other baking items.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs Esther Onyekesi, the governor’s wife said she was inspired to see that the inmates had been trained in various skills and were demonstrating what they had learnt with confidence and remarkable skill.
Soludo said watching the inmates reminded her that rehabilitation was not just about helping people recover, but also about giving them the opportunity to rediscover their abilities, regain their confidence and find a productive place in society.
She explained that every human deserved a second chance, adding that sometimes, all it took was the right support, the right opportunity and someone who believed that a better future was still very much possible.

“Today was a beautiful reminder that lives can be rebuilt, purpose can be restored, and new beginnings are always possible. I look forward to seeing you all grow soonest,” Soludo said.

Responding, one of the Reverend Sisters in charge of the home, Reverend Sister Philomena Akuchukwu, expressed appreciation to the governor’s wife for her relentless support for the home, adding that inmates are being well taken care of, evidence in the rate of rehabilitation witnessed.
She encouraged the rehabilitated inmates to uphold positive lifestyles and abstain from acts that may take them back to any form of mental illness.
She urged them to utilize the items provided for them to pursue meaningful livelihoods.
Highlights of the event were special numbers for the governor’s wife, as well as the presentation of the cash and items to the benefiting inmates.
