Veteran Nigerian entertainer Charles Oputa, widely known as Charly Boy, has publicly defended his daughter Adaeze after a social media user questioned her engagement to a woman.
The 74-year-old shared a video from the engagement ceremony on his Instagram page on Thursday, September 17, 2026, describing the couple as his “beautiful Princess and her Husband” and asking his followers to wish them well. Adaeze also posted about the engagement on her own Instagram account, sharing a photo with her partner and the caption “WE’RE ENGAGED!” alongside the hashtag #mrsandmrs.
The announcement drew a mixed response online. One commenter suggested that Adaeze had never been in a relationship with a man, implying this explained her engagement to a woman.
Charly Boy replied directly, revealing that his daughter is a mother of six and that one of her children has made him a great-grandfather. “She has 6 children, and one made me a great-grandfather,” he wrote, adding that it was her life to live as she chose.
The exchange spread quickly online, with users on X and Instagram debating the engagement and Charly Boy’s response. Some supported the duo, describing it as an example of unconditional parental support. Others argued that family matters do not need public validation to be genuine.
This is not the first time Charly Boy has addressed questions about his family and personal life in public. The entertainer, born in Enugu State on June 19, 1951, has spent more than four decades in Nigeria’s entertainment industry as a musician, television host, and social activist. He is also known by the nickname “Area Fada” and has recently released a memoir titled “999,” which covers his career and activism.
