FA Chairmen Push For Interim Committee In NFF Reform Talks

State Football Association chairmen have reportedly called for the establishment of an interim committee as discussions on reforms in Nigerian football continue with FIFA and CAF officials in Abuja.

The stakeholders’ meeting began on Monday and is focused on finding a way forward amid calls for changes to the administration of football in Nigeria.

The News Chronicle reports that FIFA and CAF officials have already held discussions with FA chairmen, league bodies and the players’ union as part of their consultations with key stakeholders.

However, the FA chairmen are said to have presented a proposal for an Interim Committee rather than a Normalisation Committee.

A source familiar with the discussions said FIFA and CAF were unlikely to accept the proposal because an Interim Committee is not provided for under the existing football statutes.

The source explained that the Normalisation Committee is recognised in the football regulations, but some FA chairmen are uncomfortable with the option because of concerns that reforms could reduce the number of state FA chairmen to six representatives based on the country’s geopolitical zones.

The discussions are expected to continue with meetings involving the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, as well as former NFF presidents and secretaries.
