The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has alleged that he was forced to leave the Labour Party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Obi made the allegation during an interview on Arise NEWS, monitored by The News Chronicle, on Thursday.
According to the former Labour Party presidential candidate, INEC had told him that his faction of the party would not be recognised as long as he remained a member.
“I left that party because INEC told us with confidence that as long as I remained there, they would not recognise our side of the party, which they did a week after I left,” Obi said.
Obi also accused the government of deliberately destabilising opposition parties, alleging that the crisis in the Labour Party and other opposition parties was part of a broader strategy to weaken the opposition ahead of the 2027 elections.

“The president said he is happy when there is a problem in other parties. In fact, they danced about it. All these things are happening because the government wants to destabilise every opposition party,” he said.
