FG Pays Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education CATA for 8 Months

The Federal Government has paid the Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA) owed to academic staff of universities, polytechnics and colleges of education for the period January to August 2026.

The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, disclosed this to journalists in Abuja on Wednesday.

Alausa said the affected institutions, including Federal Universities of Agriculture, had been directed to begin disbursing the allowance to their academic staff.

He added that the government was working to secure funding for the payment of CATA to non-academic staff, expressing optimism that the funds would be released within the next few weeks.

The minister said the payment further demonstrated President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving the welfare of academic and non-academic workers in the country.

According to him, the Federal Government is not only prioritizing workers’ welfare in tertiary institutions but is also investing heavily in infrastructure across basic, post-basic and tertiary education.

Alausa said the administration remained committed to providing Nigerian children with access to quality education that meets global standards.

This is a president that believes so much in education. So far, he has delivered beyond his campaign promises by ensuring that every single child in this country gets the highest quality of education that is comparable to anywhere in the world,” he said.

The minister also commended President Tinubu for what he described as his “transformative interventions” in the education sector.
