87-Year-Old Man Attacks Adamawa Judge With Cutlass, Injures His Hands

An 87-year-old man, identified as Dahiru Garba, has been arraigned before the Magistrate Court No. 1 in Yola, Adamawa State, for allegedly attacking a judge with a cutlass during court proceedings.
Garba, a resident of Korawa village in Mayo-Ine District of Fufore Local Government Area, reportedly attacked Judge Dauda Hamman while he was presiding over a case involving Garba and another man, Ismail Yusuf.
According to the police, the suspect allegedly struck the judge several times with the cutlass, causing serious injuries to his hands.
The incident was reportedly brought to the attention of the Mayo-Ine Police Station on August 31, 2026, after Judge Hamman filed a complaint concerning the attack.

The police later transferred the case from the Fufore Police Headquarters to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) on September 4, 2026, for further investigation.
During his arraignment on Monday, Garba reportedly admitted committing the offence after the First Information Report (FIR) was read and interpreted to him. He told the court that “Satan” influenced him to carry out the attack and expressed deep regret over his actions.
Police prosecutor, ASP Zakka Musa, told the court that the suspect’s actions constituted an offence under Section 219 of the Adamawa State Penal Code Law, 2018, relating to causing grievous hurt.
Following the proceedings, the Chief Magistrate, Ismail Bello Shelleng, ordered that Garba be remanded in a correctional facility in Yola. The court adjourned the case until September 17, 2026, for further hearing.
