The Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, has said its activities ahead of the 2027 general elections are being financed through donations, levies and contributions from members, stakeholders and supporters.
The party made this known in a statement issued on Tuesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director, while clarifying its funding arrangements and candidate selection process.
Director said the NDC, as a new political organisation without elected public office holders, had developed mechanisms to raise funds for its operations and election-related activities.
He said the party’s constitution allowed for contributions from aspirants, members, stakeholders and members of the public to support its activities.
According to him, all contributions and levies are paid directly into designated party accounts and managed by the appropriate organs.
Director also dismissed claims that the party’s National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, demanded or received money from any aspirant for personal use.
He said, “All funds were duly received, receipted and accounted for in line with global best practices.”
The publicity secretary said the party would provide a full account of its finances in line with the Electoral Act and guidelines issued by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
He explained that funding remained a crucial part of election planning, particularly for an opposition party seeking to field candidates across the country within months of the general elections.
Director said the NDC’s decision to seek donations and levies from members was aimed at supporting its operations and nationwide mobilisation.

He added that the party was not financed with funds from government treasuries but through contributions from members, stakeholders and supporters.
On candidate selection, the NDC spokesperson said the party’s presidential and vice-presidential tickets were offered free of charge, adding that the same principle applied to several other political positions.
He reaffirmed the commitment of the party leadership to transparency, due process and justice in its operations.
Director urged members of the public and the media to rely on verified information regarding the party’s activities and finances.
He said the NDC remained focused on preparations for the 2027 general elections and its goal of building a broad-based political movement.
