TCN Announces Three-Hour Blackout in Parts of Abuja, Explains Why

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced a three-hour electricity disruption in parts of Abuja on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, to enable urgent maintenance at its 330/132kV Gwagwalada Transmission Substation.

In a notice, the company said the maintenance exercise would take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and involve work on the substation’s 33kV, 6MVA earthing reactor.

TCN said the exercise would affect the ability of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to supply electricity to customers in several areas during the maintenance period.
