The Miniature Maps Of Nigeria: For Witness 2026

Major-General Ike Omar Sanda Nwachukwu is 86 today.

Igbo father. Fulani mother. Born in Port Harcourt.

Married into Ogun and Rivers. Fluent in Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa.

He is a miniature map of Nigeria.

But he is not alone.

1. THE SOLDIER

Our late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Muhammed.

A proud son of Kano.

Married to an Egba woman from Abeokuta, Ogun State.

He gave his life to unite this country, and his home already united North and West.

2. THE DIPLOMAT

General Ike Nwachukwu.

Three spheres: Military. Diplomacy. Politics.

He carried Nigeria in his blood, his marriage, and his service.

3. THE POLITICIANS

The Adeleke Family.

A name that moves across regions, faiths, and generations.

From Ede to the Senate, to the Governorship, to national music stages.

They show that Nigerian identity cannot be caged by one tribe or one zone.

4. THE WITNESS

In April 2014, at the 1st Memorial Anniversary of Prof. Chinua Achebe at the London Hilton Hotel, I declared before the diaspora:

“An Ijebu man from the Southwest, born by a Northern mother at the heart of the Eastern region, Enugu.”

I too am a miniature map of Nigeria.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR _WITNESS 2026

When they tell you Nigeria is too divided to work, show them these names.

When they say diversity is a burden, show them these homes.

Murtala defended Nigeria with his life.

Nwachukwu defended Nigeria with service across regions.

The Adelekes are defending Nigeria by excelling across sectors.

I am defending Nigeria with the PEN and with WITNESS.

The tragedy of Nigeria is not a lack of intelligence.

It is intellectual laziness and moral cowardice.

It is the refusal of privileged people to defend the country that enriched them.

_”WITNESS 2026″_ exists to document these examples.

And to demand more like them for 2027.

Let 2026 be the year we prepared well.

Let 2027 be the year we chose right.

“Until June 12 becomes not just a date, but a destiny.”

“Until miniature maps become the model, not the exception.”
