Former Super Eagles international Obafemi Martins has expressed confidence that Nigerian businessman Seyi Tinubu could become president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) in the future.
Martins made the remarks during an appearance on a podcast hosted by former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel, monitored by The News Chronicle on Monday, where they discussed the future of Nigerian football and the leadership needed to move the sport forward.
The former Inter Milan striker identified Seyi Tinubu as someone with the potential to occupy the top position in Nigerian football administration, citing his youth and perceived understanding of the aspirations of Nigerians.
According to Martins, Tinubu’s relatively young age could work in his favour, particularly in helping him understand the expectations of young Nigerians and the direction Nigerian football should take.
Although acknowledging that Tinubu is not currently an official of the NFF, Martins said he believed the businessman could eventually be prepared to take on such a leadership responsibility.
Martins also pointed to Tinubu’s current activities as possible indications of his interest in contributing to the growth and development of Nigerian football.

The former Super Eagles forward’s comments come amid ongoing discussions about the leadership and administration of the NFF, which oversees Nigeria’s national teams and plays a central role in the development of football in the country.
Martins, who enjoyed a successful professional career in Europe and represented Nigeria at international level, remains a prominent voice in Nigerian football.
His comments on Seyi Tinubu have added another perspective to the debate over the kind of leadership needed to improve football administration and drive greater progress in the sport.
