Three people were reportedly killed and five others injured after suspected bandits attacked Chiromawa community in Garun Mallam Local Government Area of Kano State on Saturday night.
Salisu Harris, Information Officer of Garun Mallam Local Government Council, disclosed this in a statement issued on Sunday in Garun Mallam.
According to Harris, the attackers invaded the community at about 10:30 p.m. and opened fire on residents, throwing the area into panic.
Residents, local vigilantes, and police officers mobilized in response and confronted the attackers while working to protect residents.
Harris also reported that security personnel and local responders rescued the Sarkin Noma of Kano State, Alhaji Yusuf Chiromawa, during the attack.
Reacting to the incident, the Chairman of Garun Mallam Local Government Council, Aminu Kadawa, expressed concern over the casualties and directed authorities to ensure that the injured received immediate medical attention.
Kadawa sympathized with the families of those killed and prayed for the repose of the victims’ souls and the quick recovery of those injured.
He commended residents, vigilantes and security personnel for their swift response and efforts to rescue people during the attack.
The chairman called for stronger collaboration between communities and security agencies to tackle insecurity.
He also urged residents to provide security agencies with credible and timely information that could help prevent attacks and protect lives and property.
