Gunmen who abducted members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Kogi State have reportedly demanded a ransom of ₦20 million for each victim.
The development followed the abduction of 15 corps members travelling from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing their three-week orientation exercise. The victims were reportedly kidnapped along the Aloma-Egane Expressway in Ofu Local Government Area of Kogi State.
According to a family member of one of the victims, the abductors had contacted the families and communicated their ransom demands.
“One of our daughters who was kidnapped on her way from Bayelsa State to Abuja after completing three weeks orientation camp. The kidnappers are requesting ₦20 million,” the family source said.
The latest development comes after the Kogi State Police Command confirmed the abduction of several passengers, including NYSC members, along the route.
The command said 11 abducted persons, including the drivers of the two vehicles involved, had been rescued during a joint operation by security agencies. It added that efforts were ongoing to locate and rescue those still being held captive.
Meanwhile, families of some of the victims have appealed to the Federal Government, the NYSC and security agencies to intensify rescue operations and secure the safe release of the remaining corps members.
