Borno State Commissioner for Youth, Saina Buba, has reportedly sparked controversy following a remark he allegedly made during a City Boys Movement town hall event in Maiduguri.
Buba, who represented the Borno State Government at the event reportedly held on Friday, August 28, 2026, was said to have told members of the public to “join APC or get beaten” during his address.
The reported remark has generated reactions, particularly because it was made in the context of political mobilisation and the activities of the City Boys Movement, a youth-oriented political group associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The City Boys Movement has previously organised political mobilisation activities in Maiduguri, including programmes aimed at encouraging young people to participate in APC membership registration and other political activities.
Critics have questioned whether the language reportedly used by the commissioner was appropriate for a public official speaking at a political gathering, especially amid growing political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
While some supporters may interpret the comment as political rhetoric or an attempt to encourage stronger support for the APC, critics could view the reference to members of the public being “beaten” as inappropriate and potentially threatening.
