Don Jazzy Says Ayra Starr “Changed My Life” as Starrgirl Album Hits UK Chart

Ayra Starr’s third studio album, “Starrgirl,” released on August 14, has already reached notable chart positions in its first week.

The 16-track project debuted at No. 3 on Spotify’s Top Albums Debut UK chart. One of its lead singles, “Heaven Baby,” featuring British singer ZAYN, climbed 40 places to land at No. 31 on the Global Shazam Top Songs chart.

“Starrgirl” follows Ayra Starr’s earlier records, “19 & Dangerous” (2021) and “The Year I Turned 21” (2024). The new album brings together Nigerian artists Wizkid and Rema, alongside international acts ZAYN, Leon Thomas, kwn, Theodora, and Danny Ocean. Wizkid appears on the track “Gimme Dat,” while Rema features on “Who’s Dat Girl.” As part of the album’s promotion, Ayra Starr held a fan meet-and-greet in Camden, London.

On August 20, Mavin Records founder Don Jazzy responded to a fan on X who credited him with helping build Ayra Starr, whose real name is Oyinkansola Aderibigbe.

The post read: “Don Jazzy really saved Ayra Starr; if not, she for still dey teach kindergarten children.”

Don Jazzy, however, replied that the singer had changed his life as well, recalling how he first found her through an Instagram freestyle. In his post, he called her “nothing but a dream Starrgirl.”

The message drew wide attention online, gathering over 1.6 million views within a day. Many fans used the moment to acknowledge Don Jazzy’s role in her career and the mutual respect between the two. One fan, Chinedu Aleke, said, “It’s rare to see a boss openly acknowledging how much of a blessing the employee is to him.”

Another fan, @David Mathew, praised the pair’s partnership, writing, “You both have been a blessing to each other. Under you, she has never released a song or album that flopped.”

User @Ololade0000 summed up the exchange simply: “He lifted her, and she gave him another ladder.”

Writer Paul C. Nwabuikwu also commented on Don Jazzy’s character, describing him as someone who has “achieved so much, yet so humble and so human.”

Ayra Starr held a private fan meet-and-greet in Camden, London on Thursday, August 20, as part of the promotional rollout for “Starrgirl.”
