The Special Adviser and Spokesperson to the Osun State Governor, Olawale Rasheed, has dismissed claims that the outcome of the recent election in the state was the result of an agreement between the state government and the Federal Government.
Speaking during an interview on Arise TV monitored by The News Chronicle, Rasheed said there was no visible agreement between the Osun State Government and the Federal Government, insisting that the election victory reflected the will of the people.
“There was no visible agreement with the Federal Government. The win in Osun is the will of the people,” Rasheed said.
He also clarified that the endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by Governor Ademola Adeleke predated the election, stressing that the decision should therefore not be interpreted as a post-election political arrangement.
According to him, the endorsement was an already established position before the election and should be considered separately from the outcome of the poll.
Rasheed’s comments come amid political discussions over the factors behind the election result and the relationship between the Osun State Government and the Federal Government.
The governor’s spokesperson maintained that the people of Osun should be credited for the electoral outcome, rather than attributing the victory to any alleged political agreement between the state and federal authorities.
He further suggested that the political developments should be understood within the context of the electorate’s decision and the existing political positions of the state government.
The statement adds to the ongoing debate over the political realignments in Osun State and their implications for the wider political landscape ahead of the 2027 general elections.
