A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, Farouk Aliyu, has said the party did everything within its capacity to win the 2026 Osun State governorship election.
Aliyu, however, acknowledged that the people of Osun State ultimately decided to vote for the Accord Party, describing the outcome as a reflection of democracy.
Speaking on the outcome of the election, the APC chieftain said the party had no reason to believe it did not do enough to secure victory, noting that members were already reviewing what went wrong.
“I don’t think we got anything wrong, really. We did our best. I mean, we did what we thought could make us win the election,” Aliyu said.
He added that the party was still examining the details of the election and its outcome.

“But of course, here and there, you know, at the back end, we’re discussing to see the details of really what has happened. We did everything, everything possible, humanly possible, to win the election,” he said.
Aliyu also commended the Federal Government for allowing the election to take place without manipulating the outcome, saying the result had disproved expectations that the APC would simply impose its preferred outcome.
According to him, the people of Osun State had spoken through their votes and their decision should be respected.

“And the Osun people decided they wanted the Accord Party. And so be it. And honestly, I mean, I congratulate the people of Osun State, because this is democracy,” he added.
Aliyu further described the election as a victory for democracy, stressing that political power could change hands through the ballot.
The APC chieftain’s comments come after the party suffered defeat in the Osun governorship election, with the outcome triggering discussions within the party over its campaign strategy and performance.
