The Nasarawa State Government has set December 2026 as the completion date for the ongoing 2.6-kilometre Mararaba-Nyanya Flyover and adjoining road project.
The Managing Director of the Nasarawa State Urban Development Board, Engr. Wada Yahaya, disclosed this during an inspection tour of major federal and state government projects by members of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Tour.
The delegation, led by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, inspected key infrastructure projects across Nasarawa State as part of a tour aimed at showcasing ongoing development projects and the impact of increased fiscal resources at the sub-national level.
Yahaya said the Mararaba-Nyanya project was designed to ease the persistent traffic congestion in the area while improving connectivity between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory.
He said the project comprises two flyover bridges, an elevated road spanning about 2.6 kilometres and five pedestrian bridges.
“There were several attempts to solve this traffic problem in Mararaba, but at the end of the day, His Excellency, Governor Abdullahi Sule came up with the final solution,” Yahaya said.
He explained that the pedestrian bridges would allow residents to cross the road at different points without having to travel to the roundabout.
According to him, the construction work alone is costing the state government almost ₦40 billion, while compensation is estimated at more than ₦1.1 billion.
He added that road furniture, including road markings, signage and street lighting, could cost more than ₦1 billion, putting the total project cost at between ₦43 billion and ₦44 billion.
Yahaya said the completed project would boost economic activities in Mararaba and other parts of the state by reducing travel time between Abuja and Keffi.
He said the project was expected to cut the journey from more than two hours to less than 40 minutes.
The official also linked the state’s ability to undertake the project to increased federal allocations, saying the state government had continued to release funds whenever payments became due.
The inspection team also visited the completed Lafia Flyover, Underpass and Interchange; the ongoing Dalhatu Arab Specialist Hospital in Akwanga; and the Total Flyover Bridge and Underpass in Keffi.
The team further inspected the completed Akwanga Interchange and Underpass, which forms part of the state’s investment in road infrastructure and urban mobility.
Yahaya said the projects reflected the state government’s efforts to improve transportation, support economic activities and enhance the quality of life of residents.
Speaking at the end of the inspection tour of Benue and Nasarawa states, the Director of Media and Publicity of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors and Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties, Tunde Rahman, commended both state governments for executing major infrastructure projects.
Rahman said the projects inspected included roads, bridges, healthcare facilities, education projects and water interventions.
He attributed the increased infrastructure spending in the states to reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, which he said had created greater fiscal space for state governments.
“Somebody said in Nasarawa that Governor Abdullahi Sule had turned Nasarawa State into a huge construction yard,” Rahman said, adding that a similar trend was visible in Benue State under Governor Hyacinth Alia.
He also urged Nigerians to consider the administration’s achievements when making their voting decisions in the 2027 general elections.
The inspection tour was part of efforts by the Renewed Hope Ambassadors National Media Team to assess major development projects and highlight infrastructure investments across the two states.
