Troops of Operation ENDURING PEACE have foiled an ambush by suspected bandits during a follow-up operation in Langtang North Local Government Area of Plateau State, killing one attacker and recovering an AK-47 rifle.
The operation followed the arrest and interrogation of a suspected bandit, whose confession provided troops with intelligence on a weapon allegedly concealed by the criminal syndicate in Nwur Village.
Acting on the intelligence, troops escorted the suspect to the village to recover the hidden weapon. However, as they approached the suspected hideout, members of the syndicate opened fire on the troops in an apparent ambush.
The troops responded with superior firepower, neutralising one of the attackers. The arrested suspect was also killed in the ensuing exchange of gunfire.
Following the encounter, the troops conducted an exploitation of the area and recovered one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine and two rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition abandoned by fleeing members of the syndicate.
The troops have intensified operations in the area as they continue efforts to track down and neutralise other members of the criminal network.
Operation ENDURING PEACE reaffirmed its commitment to denying criminal elements freedom of action and safeguarding the lives and property of law-abiding residents across Plateau State.
