Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has urged the newly elected President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya (SAN), to leave a lasting legacy that will inspire more women to aspire to leadership positions within the legal profession.
Speaking on Tuesday while receiving Badejo-Okusanya and a delegation of female legal practitioners at the State House in Abuja, the First Lady described her emergence as the NBA’s first elected female president as a significant milestone for gender inclusion and a testament to the power of women supporting one another.
She encouraged the senior advocate to use her tenure to set a high standard of leadership that would strengthen public confidence in women occupying top positions.
“I believe your profession is quite conservative, and I want to wish you well while also thanking all the women who stood by you throughout your journey,” Tinubu said.
“It is very important for women to support one another. We pray that your tenure will open more doors for women. You have to set the bar high.”

The First Lady also pledged her support to the association, assuring the new NBA leadership of her readiness to collaborate whenever needed.
Earlier, Badejo-Okusanya expressed appreciation to the First Lady for receiving her delegation ahead of her official assumption of office.
She commended Senator Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), saying members of the legal profession admired its efforts in addressing poverty and improving the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.
The NBA president attributed her electoral victory to the collective support and solidarity of women within the legal profession.
“Everyone played a role in ensuring my victory at the election. Your Excellency, you have set a worthy example for others to emulate. We in the legal profession also recognise that we have a responsibility to contribute to national development,” she said.
Badejo-Okusanya added that the association looks forward to partnering with the Renewed Hope Initiative on programmes that would benefit Nigerians.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the NBA president had earlier paid a courtesy visit to President Bola Tinubu at the State House ahead of formally assuming office.
