The Nigerian Army has recorded another breakthrough in its counter-insurgency operations following the surrender of a senior finance operative of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) to troops of Operation Hadin Kai in Borno State.
According to the Army, the suspect surrendered on the morning of July 25, 2026, to troops of the 3 Battalion under the 24 Task Force Brigade along the Ladari-Jegarawa-Tunokalia axis on the Gamboru–Wulgo Main Supply Route. He reportedly arrived with two male children.
Captain Mohammed Goni, Acting Military Information Officer for Operation Hadin Kai, said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect served as the chief finance operative of the ISWAP enclave at Jubillaram, where he oversaw the group’s finances and logistics.
Recovered from the suspect were an AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 101 rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, a motorcycle, and N40,000 in cash.
The Army said the suspect is currently undergoing detailed profiling and interrogation to gather intelligence that could aid ongoing military operations and help track down other terrorist elements.
Military authorities attributed the surrender to sustained land and air offensives against terrorist strongholds, noting that about 46 terrorists and their family members have voluntarily surrendered to troops in recent days.
Describing the development as a major setback for ISWAP, the Army said it demonstrates the continued weakening of the group’s command structure, operational capability, and support network.
The military also urged remaining terrorists to surrender and embrace the Federal Government’s non-kinetic initiatives, while appealing to the public to continue providing credible and timely intelligence to support counter-terrorism efforts across the North-East.
