A Magistrates’ Court in Kubwa, Abuja, on Tuesday arraigned a 23-year-old man, Andrew Marvelous, for allegedly stealing his parents’ generator, withdrawing money from his mother’s bank account without authorisation and threatening to kill them.
Marvelous, who lives behind L.E.A. Primary School in Byazhin, Abuja, faces charges of criminal conspiracy, theft, unauthorised withdrawal of funds from his mother’s account and criminal intimidation.
Prosecutor Okpa John told the court that the defendant allegedly conspired with his brother, Micheal Andrew, who remains at large, to steal their parents’ generator from their home.
John further alleged that Marvelous took his mother’s Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card and withdrew N3,000 from her bank account without her knowledge, permission or consent.
The prosecutor added that the defendant allegedly threatened to kill his parents after they confronted him over the missing generator and the unauthorised withdrawal.
According to the prosecution, the parents reported the incident at the Byazhin Police Station, Kubwa, prompting an investigation that led to the defendant’s arrest.
John said the alleged offences violate Sections 97, 287 and 396 of the Penal Code.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to all the charges.
Magistrate Oyepeju Mustapha granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like amount.
She also directed the court registrar to verify the defendant’s residential address before his release and adjourned the case until August 3 for hearing.
