He doesn’t know what it’s like” — Bellingham Slams Tuchel After He Labelled England ‘Lucky’

Jude Bellingham hits back at Thomas Tuchel after the England coach labeled their performance against Norway as “lucky.”
An unexpected civil war has erupted in the England camp after match-winner Jude Bellingham openly clashed with manager Thomas Tuchel following the Three Lions’ dramatic 2-1 extra-time World Cup quarter-final win over Norway.
While fans danced in the stands at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Tuchel pulled absolutely no punches in a remarkably candid, heated post-match interview.
Despite Bellingham dragging England over the line with a heroic brace, the German tactician made it clear that he was far from satisfied, completely losing his cool over what he perceived as a substandard display.
“The result is fantastic. We’re in the last four. It’s amazing. But I’m not happy with the performance,” Tuchel told ITV Sport. “In every sense… It was sloppy. A lot of technical mistakes. Not fast enough. We were lucky today.”
When pressed by the reporter on whether his squad suffered from a “mentality” problem, the England coach visibly bristled.
“No. Mentality? This is pure mentality! How can you ask about mentality now? You can bottle it up and sell it! There is no mentality problem. It is the quality of our game.”
The scathing review did not sit well with Bellingham. When told of his manager’s brutal public takedown, the Real Madrid superstar didn’t hold back his irritation. Rolling his eyes, he dismissed the complaints with a blunt, “Yeah, well, whatever,” before firing a direct shot back at his coach’s lack of on-pitch perspective.
“Maybe he doesn’t know what it’s like to play in those kind of conditions against Erling Haaland, Ødegaard, Nusa, Sørloth,” Bellingham fired back. “That’s not an easy team to play against. It’s difficult out there. It was a tough shift.”
Defending the squad’s grit in the punishing 33°C Miami humidity, the 23-year-old made it clear that survival, not tactical perfection, was the ultimate priority on the pitch.
“I can’t think highly enough of the lads,” Bellingham added. “You’re not going to win every game popping a thousand passes, sometimes you have to win dirty. I think we’ve tried to create a positive environment, and we should continue that going into the final four.”
The immediate visual of England’s talisman openly rebelling against his manager’s tactical demands has sent shockwaves through the tournament. In an attempt to cap the fallout, Tuchel later tried to downplay the drama, insisting there is “not 1% of a disconnect” between him and the squad, claiming his “analysing head” simply knows they can play better.
Captain Harry Kane also stepped in to act as a peacemaker, spinning Tuchel’s perfectionism as a positive motivator and noting that having a manager who refuses to accept a substandard performance—even in victory—is a massive plus.
Nevertheless, with a massive semi-final clash against Argentina looming, Tuchel now faces the monumental task of fixing a sudden, high-profile rift with his most dangerous player before it derails their World Cup dream.
