Sokoto Governor Donates 10 Hilux Vans for Sokoto-Badagry Highway Project

—

Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has donated 10 Hilux vans to support the construction of the Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway, reaffirming the state’s commitment to the landmark federal infrastructure project.

The vehicles were officially handed over on Wednesday in Sokoto to the Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, who received them on behalf of the Federal Government.

Speaking during the presentation, Aliyu said the donation fulfilled the state’s pledge to support the project, stressing the importance of road networks in promoting connectivity and national development.

He praised President Bola Tinubu for initiating the project, describing it as a transformative investment that would stimulate economic growth and improve socio-economic activities across the country.

In his remarks, Goronyo described the 1,068-kilometre highway as a legacy project designed to accelerate development nationwide. He said the donated vehicles would strengthen security surveillance and support project operations, adding that other logistical needs would also be addressed.

The minister commended the Sokoto State Government for its support and assured that the vehicles would be properly maintained and used effectively throughout the project.

Also speaking, the Federal Controller of Works in Sokoto State, Kassimu Maigwandu, disclosed that the Sokoto section of the highway spans 120 kilometres of concrete pavement.

According to him, the section will feature a six-lane carriageway, bridges, solar-powered street lighting, and a railway line integrated into the corridor. He added that the project also includes CCTV surveillance systems, health posts, and security stations to enhance emergency response and public safety.

Maigwandu noted that construction is currently progressing simultaneously at six different locations, with adequate security measures in place to protect workers and equipment.

He said the project extends beyond road construction, emphasizing that it is expected to drive growth in agriculture, tourism, education, and healthcare.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the 1,068-kilometre Sokoto-Badagry Super Highway was inaugurated on October 24, 2024, in Illela Local Government Area under the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

NAN also reports that the Sokoto State Government recently donated security equipment worth N27 billion to security agencies. The equipment, received by the Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa, included 62 armoured vehicles and 300 motorcycles to strengthen efforts against banditry and other security threats in the state.
