Gunmen Abduct Three Federal University of Lafia Students, Police Rescue One

—

The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of three students of the Federal University of Lafia (FUlafia), saying one of the victims has been rescued while efforts are ongoing to free the remaining two.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a statement issued on Wednesday in Lafia.

According to him, the incident was reported to the police by the university’s Chief Security Officer at about 9:20 p.m. on Tuesday.

Nansel said the CSO informed the command that the students were abducted by suspected armed men from Living Seed Lodge, a student hostel located in a bushy area on the outskirts of the university’s residential community.

Following the report, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Shetima Mohammed, ordered the immediate deployment of tactical teams, patrol operatives and other security personnel to the area.

“The operatives swiftly mobilised and launched a coordinated search-and-rescue operation within the surrounding forest.

“The prompt response of the police led to the successful rescue of one of the abducted students.

“Efforts have since been intensified to ensure the safe rescue of the remaining two victims still in captivity and the arrest of the perpetrators,” the statement read.

The police spokesperson assured residents that the command remained committed to securing the release of the remaining victims and bringing those responsible for the abduction to justice.

He also appealed to members of the public to remain calm and vigilant while supporting security agencies with credible and timely information that could aid ongoing operations.

Nansel further urged residents to promptly report any suspicious movement or activities to the nearest police station for immediate response.
