Troops Crush Terror Raids, Rescues District Head in Katsina

—

Troops of the Joint Task Force, North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled multiple terrorist attacks, rescued an abducted district head, neutralised terrorists and recovered weapons during coordinated operations across Katsina and Zamfara states.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force (North West), Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja and made available to The News Chronicle.

The operations, carried out on July 2, 2026, dealt fresh blows to terrorist groups operating in the North West, reinforcing ongoing military efforts to secure communities and sustain pressure on criminal elements.

In Katsina State, troops of Sector 2 on a fighting patrol engaged terrorists between Amara and Chakau Junction in Danmusa Local Government Area after the fleeing suspects opened fire on the advancing troops. The soldiers responded with superior firepower, forcing the terrorists to abandon their mission and flee.

Troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a magazine loaded with eight rounds of ammunition and two motorcycles believed to have been used by the terrorists.

In another operation around Sabon Garin and Dantakeri villages in Dutsinma Local Government Area, troops, working with other security agencies and local vigilantes, responded swiftly to a terrorist attack and neutralised one terrorist during a gun battle.

Also in Katsina, troops, alongside other security agencies, rescued the District Head of Farin Hawa Village, Mr. Mubarak Sharin, after terrorists invaded the community in Malumfashi Local Government Area and abducted him.

The troops pursued the fleeing gunmen, engaged them in a firefight, neutralised one of the attackers and successfully rescued the traditional ruler, disrupting the terrorists’ escape.

In neighbouring Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2 repelled a terrorist assault on their location in Dauran, Bukkuyum Local Government Area.

Reinforced by a fighting patrol, the troops forced the attackers to retreat, recovering one AK-47 rifle, four magazines, 35 rounds of ammunition, a bandolier and a CamelBak hydration pack.

Commending the troops and collaborating security agencies, Operation FANSAN YAMMA praised their courage, professionalism and resilience, reaffirming its commitment to sustaining offensive operations against terrorist groups and protecting lives and property across the North West.
