Burna Boy Overtakes Tyla, Becomes Africa’s Most-Streamed Artist on Spotify

—

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has set a new African record on Spotify, becoming the continent’s most-streamed artist by monthly listeners after reaching an unprecedented 46.84 million listeners.

The Grammy-winning singer overtook South African star Tyla, whose previous record stood at 46.58 million, reclaiming the title as Africa’s biggest artist on the global streaming platform.

Fueling Burna Boy’s record-breaking rise is the massive success of “Dai Dai,” his collaboration with Colombian pop icon Shakira. The song, selected as the official anthem of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, exploded in popularity after its performance at the tournament’s opening ceremony and has continued to dominate streaming platforms and international music charts.

The latest milestone further cements Burna Boy’s global dominance, adding to a catalog of blockbuster hits led by “Last Last,” which is closing in on 600 million Spotify streams.

The record comes as anticipation builds for Burna Boy’s forthcoming studio album and his highly anticipated “Unity Tour,” set to kick off later this year.

“Dai Dai” has also enjoyed remarkable commercial success across Europe, topping the charts in Spain while peaking at No. 2 in France, No. 3 in Italy, No. 4 in the United Kingdom, No. 5 in Switzerland, and No. 8 in Germany, boosted by its World Cup exposure and heavy radio rotation.

On Spotify’s African rankings, Burna Boy now sits ahead of Tems, who has 40.64 million monthly listeners, with Ayra Starr and Rema also maintaining strong positions among the continent’s most-streamed artists.

Globally, however, Bruno Mars remains Spotify’s all-time monthly listener leader with 133.6 million, ahead of Justin Bieber (128.4 million), The Weeknd (113.9 million), Rihanna (110.3 million) and Michael Jackson (109.6 million).
