Man Arraigned Over Alleged N4.8m U.S. Travel Document Scam in Ogun

A 38-year-old man, Ogunyemi Temitope, was on Wednesday arraigned before an Ota Magistrates’ Court in Ogun State over allegations of defrauding a man of N4.8 million under the guise of securing travel documents to the United States.

Temitope, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing a one-count charge of fraud.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The prosecutor, ASP E.O. Adaraloye, told the court that the alleged offense was committed at No. 6, Surulere Street, Ota.

According to the prosecutor, the defendant obtained N4.8 million from the complainant, Saka Yusuf, after promising to procure travel documents for him and two members of his family to the United States of America.

Adaraloye alleged that instead of fulfilling the agreement, the defendant converted the money to his personal use.

He told the court that the alleged offense contravenes Section 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Ogun State, 2006.

In her ruling, Magistrate O.O. Fadairo granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The magistrate directed that the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction, be gainfully employed, and provide evidence of tax payment to the Ogun State Government.

The case was adjourned until July 18 for further hearing.
