The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of the Benue State Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Ardo Risku Mohammed, describing him as a fearless advocate of peace and unity.
In a statement issued on Sunday by MACBAN National President, Baba Othman-Ngelzarma, the Sultan, who also chairs the association’s Board of Trustees, called for a thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation into the murder.
He urged authorities to ensure that everyone found responsible is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
While mourning the late Fulani leader, the Sultan commended the Benue State Government and security agencies for their swift response, particularly the arrest of suspects linked to the killing.
He described Risku as a respected community leader who devoted his life to promoting dialogue, reconciliation, and peaceful coexistence between pastoralists and farming communities across Benue State.
According to the Sultan, the deceased’s unwavering commitment to conflict resolution and mutual understanding earned him widespread respect across ethnic and community divides.
He extended his condolences to Risku’s family, the leadership and members of MACBAN nationwide, as well as the government and people of Benue State.
The Sultan appealed to residents of Benue and the general public to remain calm, avoid reprisals, and allow the law to take its course.
He warned against actions capable of fuelling further violence, stressing that lasting justice can only be achieved through lawful institutions.
“Late Alhaji Ardo Risku dedicated his life to building bridges across communities. The greatest tribute we can pay him is to uphold the values of peace, restraint, dialogue, and mutual respect that he lived and worked for,” the Sultan said.
He prayed for Almighty Allah to forgive the deceased’s shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give his family, friends, and associates the strength and patience to bear the irreparable loss.
