2026 Unity Congress: Anambra NYCN to Stream Election Live, Vows Credible Ladership Transition

The leadership of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Anambra State chapter has vowed to organize a free, fair, credible and transparent election during the 2026 Unity Congress scheduled for June 25, 2026.

The Anambra State Chairman of the NYCN, Comrade Surveyor Obi Emeka Chukwudi, gave the assurance on Tuesday, while addressing Anambra youths during a press conference in Awka, the state capital, ahead of the congress, where a new leadership of the state council is expected to emerge.

The congress had commenced on Saturday, 20th of June, 2026, before the session went on recess to harmonize interests.

Addressing a news conference today, Surveyor Obi said his administration has put in place measures to guarantee transparency in the electoral process, including live streaming of the exercise on the council’s Facebook platform.

He urged aspirants and candidates to intensify consultations with stakeholders across various youth bodies and affiliate organizations, stressing that only recognized and active youth organizations domiciled in the state would be eligible to participate in the election.

The organizations, he said, include the 21 Local Government chapters of the NYCN and three faith-based groups- the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), the Catholic Youth Organisation of Nigeria (CYON) and the Anglican Youth Fellowship (AYF).

Obi further listed the 11 recognized uniformed organizations eligible to participate as the Man O’ War, Girl Guides, Royal Rangers, Missionary Organisation Department (MOD), Scouts, Boys Brigade, Girls Brigade, Brigade of Guards of Nigeria, Royal Ambassadors, Sheriff Guard of Nigeria and Eagles Cadet.

He directed the organizations to submit their fresh delegates’ lists on June 23 and 24, ahead of the congress slated for Thursday, June 25, at La Luna Hotels, Awka.

The outgoing NYCN Chairman said the steps were aimed at ensuring that his administration would be remembered for conducting credible elections and for laying the foundation for a united, harmonious and vibrant youth council.

Obi also commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for his efforts towards improving the welfare of young people in the state, noting that initiatives such as the One Youth Two Skills programme and other empowerment schemes had helped many youths escape poverty and positioned them to contribute meaningfully to the state’s development.

“We want to equally express our gratitude to the Commissioner for Youth Development and Sports, Mr. Patrick Aghamba, for his fatherly guidance that had helped provide direction and purpose for Anambra youths,” he said.

The NYCN state president also appreciated former presidents of the council in the state for their support and contributions, which he said contributed significantly to the successes recorded by his administration.

The 2026 Unity Congress is expected to usher in a new leadership for the Anambra State chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria.
