New details about the late Nollywood actor Alexx Ekubo’s private life have emerged following his Service of Songs, while reports of theft at the memorial raised concerns among colleagues and fans.
Actress Uche Jombo stirred controversy after she commented on the photos and videos of a woman identified as Alexx Ekubo’s wife, Anwuli, which surfaced online after the tribute held in Lagos.
In a post later deleted from her X account, Uche Jombo criticised bloggers for exposing the grieving widow and revealed that Alexx had intentionally kept his family away from public attention.
She wrote, “A husband who has been through public scrutiny kept his wife private (to protect her). None of his close friends ever shared her picture. She wore a face mask to his service of songs.”
Her statement confirmed that Alexx Ekubo was married, ending years of public speculation about his personal life. However, many social media users criticised the actress, arguing that her defence had also confirmed the identity of the woman whose photos had been circulating online.
The Service of Songs took place on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, at the Monarch Event Centre in Lekki, Lagos, where family members, friends and colleagues gathered to honour the actor.
Actress Nancy Isime, who hosted the event alongside Stan Nze, later described the occasion as the most difficult assignment of her career.
Sharing an emotional message on Instagram, she wrote, “HARDEST Hosting Gig of my Life! This wasn’t the plan Old 20 Naira, This wasn’t the plan.” She also said she could not bring herself to put Alexx Ekubo’s name together with the words “rest in peace.”
While mourners paid tribute to the late actor, an unexpected incident overshadowed part of the gathering.
Actor Stan Nze disclosed that about five phones went missing during the event, including devices belonging to actresses Bambam and Susan Peters. According to him, organisers temporarily restricted movement at the entrance to search for the suspected thief.
Expressing his disappointment, Stan Nze questioned how anyone could steal at a memorial service and urged Nigerians to reflect on their values.
Bambam later said she tracked her missing phone to Nnamdi Azikiwe Street on Lagos Island, adding that it had likely been sold or dismantled. Susan Peters also appealed for help after losing her white iPhone 16 Pro Max, describing the theft as shocking.
Alexx Ekubo’s private marriage and reports of multiple stolen phones turned the Service of Songs into one of the most discussed entertainment events of the week.
