Gunmen Open Fire at Kwara Prayer Ground, Kill 3 Worshippers, Abduct 15

According to reports, three worshippers were killed while 15 others were abducted after gunmen attacked a prayer ground in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Saturday night.

The horrifying attack happened at Ori-Oke Ajaiye, a prayer site located on the outskirts of Ikiran Village in the Ikerin/Ajuba area of the LGA, The News Chronicle gathered.

Sources said the attackers, who arrived in large numbers, invaded the prayer ground during a night vigil, shooting sporadically and causing panic among worshippers and residents. The gunmen reportedly fled through nearby forest routes after the assault.

The spokesperson of the Kwara State Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Sunday.

According to her, the attack was reported by Pastor Adebayo Abiodun of Ijo Ajaye Ati Igbala, Ekerin Village, who was leading the vigil when the gunmen struck.

She said security operatives have launched intensive efforts to rescue the abducted victims and track down those behind the attack.

“The Police, alongside other security agencies, have commenced coordinated operations, including bush combing and intelligence gathering, to ensure the perpetrators are arrested and brought to justice,” the statement added.
