Former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has revealed that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu repeatedly claimed credit for making former President Muhammadu Buhari president while they both served in government.
Speaking during an interview with Arise News monitored by The News Chronicle, Amaechi said he deliberately kept silent at the time because openly challenging Tinubu’s claim could have cost him his ministerial position under Buhari’s administration.
Amaechi, who served as Director-General of Buhari’s presidential campaign, insisted he played a central role in securing the former president’s victory, recounting how he travelled across the country canvassing support during the election campaign.
“While I was a minister, President Tinubu was claiming he made Buhari president and I could not respond because I was a minister under President Buhari. That would be suicidal because Buhari could fire you,” Amaechi said.
“I could not have said, ‘No, you are wrong, you did not make President Buhari the president,’” he added.
