NPFL Title Race Heads for Dramatic Finale in Lagos and Port Harcourt

—

The 2025/26 Nigeria Premier League season is set for a thrilling conclusion as league organizers prepare to crown the new champions in either Lagos or Port Harcourt on the final day of the campaign.

The News Chronicle reports that Enugu Rangers and Rivers United are still locked in a fierce battle for the NPFL Title, with only one point separating the two teams heading into Sunday’s crucial matches. With 65 points, Rangers currently lead the standings and must defeat Ikorodu City in Lagos, while Rivers United welcome Katsina United in Port Harcourt.

To avoid any delay in the championship festivities, the NPFL has planned for the trophy to be ready at both sites concurrently. Among those expected to attend the final games as the season comes to a spectacular close are government representatives, league officials, and football stakeholders.

In addition to the championship battle, many clubs are still battling to escape relegation in one of the toughest survival battles in recent memory. Former winners Enyimba, Kano Pillars, Plateau United, Remo Stars, and Warri Wolves are all competing for their Premier League status with only one game left.

Every game has major consequences; hence, to ensure fairness and maintain the tournament’s integrity, all games around the country will begin simultaneously.
