Several Nigerian celebrities are reacting publicly to the reported kidnapping attack on schools in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, where gunmen allegedly abducted teachers and students and later killed a teacher identified as Michael Oyedokun.
The attack allegedly occurred on Friday, May 15, in communities near Ogbomoso. Reports said 46 people were abducted, including 39 students, seven teachers, and a two-year-old child.
Public attention increased after a viral video allegedly showed the killing of Oyedokun while in captivity.
Bobrisky criticized Nigerians and entertainment blogs for focusing on celebrity controversies rather than the security situation in Oyo State.
In a post shared on Instagram, Bobrisky wrote, “Wait! They slaughtered a man live in that same Nigeria? And we are talking about Chike and Frank.”
Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham also reacted to the reports. In a statement shared on social media on Tuesday, May 20, she expressed concern over insecurity in Oyo State and other parts of the country.
“My heart is deeply heavy over the painful killings and abductions happening in Oyo State and across different parts of Nigeria,” she wrote.
She asked the administration of Seyi Makinde what measures were being introduced to prevent similar attacks.
Another actress, Ruth Kadiri, directed her comments to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This is not propaganda,” she wrote on Instagram. “Dear President Tinubu, pls do something, or give us the go-ahead to protect our lives and properties. Too much death everywhere.”
Kadiri added that many Nigerians no longer feel safe in their homes.
Opeyemi Aiyeola released a video calling on celebrities, politicians, and traditional rulers to use their influence to draw attention to the situation.
“This is closer to home than expected,” she said. “Use your platform. Use your voice. Use your connection. Ask questions. Seek answers.”
Aiyeola mentioned several public figures, including Funke Akindele, Eniola Badmus, and Laide Bakare, urging them to speak on the issue.
The Oyo State Police Command has begun forensic analysis of the viral video linked to the killing in an effort to identify those responsible.
The incident has raised concerns among residents in parts of Ogbomoso, with reports of heightened fear and tension in affected communities.
