The Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State has restricted movement in two of its wards following repeated violent confrontations involving rival groups of street gangs locally referred to as ‘Yan Daba.
The unrest reportedly spilled over into attacks on unsuspecting residents, leaving members of the community in fear and disrupting normal activities.
This was contained in a statement released to journalists on Monday by the Council’s Information Officer, Tasi’u Yahaya-Dadinduniya.
He quoted the council chairman, Alhaji Salisu Usman-Masu, who announced the decision after an emergency security meeting with community stakeholders convened to address the recurring violence.
Under the new directive, residents of Fagge D1 and Fagge D2 wards are barred from movement between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m. daily.
“The Fagge Local Government Assembly, under the leadership of Chairman, Alhaji Salisu Usman-Masu, has imposed a curfew on Fagge D1 and Fagge D2 wards from 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.
“The measure follows recent clashes among youths in the area that have resulted in loss of lives,” he lamented.
