The Federal Government has abolished the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) requirement for candidates seeking admission into Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) programs across Colleges of Education.
Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced the decision on Monday during the 2026 JAMB policy meeting in Abuja.
Under the revised admission guidelines, prospective NCE students will now only need a minimum of four O-Level credits in relevant subjects to qualify for admission.
Alausa said the policy aims to reduce the administrative burden on the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) and expand access to teacher education nationwide.
