A former senatorial aspirant for Sokoto Central in the 2011 general elections under the defunct Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has declared to contest the 2027 Sokoto Central senatorial seat on the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Dr Alkali, a grassroots politician and prominent pro-democracy and human rights activist joins the growing ranks of human rights activists contesting in the 2027 general elections.
Recall that A’isha Yesufu, a prominent pro-democracy and human rights activist, has also joined the race for the FCT senate under the same party, the NDC.
Alkali, a petroleum engineer-turned politician pledged to sponsor bills that will promote the interests of youths and other Nigerians particularly in the areas of skills acquisition and job creation.
He stressed that the current levels of unemployment in Nigeria at double digits (42%) is utterly unacceptable and a time-bomb that could trigger massive youth revolt if not checked.
Dr. Alkali also pledged to promote bills on internal security to secure lives and property, social security for monthly cash payments to unemployed youths, health, education, out-of-school children and anti-corruption if elected into office.
He also pledged to bring his wealth of experience in the private sector to promote reforms in sea ports, which he said have the potential to reposition Nigeria’s economy and drastically reduce the high levels of poverty in our dear country.
