Emotion ran high in Magumeri Federal Constituency as Hon. Audu Mustapha Ganga, who has spent 16 years in the House of Representatives, broke down in tears while making a desperate appeal for support for a fifth term bid.
Ganga, the member representing the constituency, was seen in a viral video pleading with stakeholders as pressure mounts from within his base for a fresh face in the political space.
“You know I am from a poor background, but I was able to do many things for you. I promise to give you better representation if given another chance,” he said.
Meanwhile, political tension is mounting in the constituency, with sources revealing that no fewer than six aspirants have already purchased expression of interest and nomination forms to challenge his long-standing hold on the seat.
His emotional appeal has since triggered a storm of reactions across social media, dividing opinion among supporters and critics.
Abubakar Hassan wrote: “You now know that you came from a poor background after disrespecting your leaders. You know the governor will not spare you.”
Mu’azu Hassan added: “It’s not easy providing food for the family. No food for a lazy man.”
Lawan Modu, however, defended the lawmaker, saying: “Hon Ganga has impacted the lives of youth and women through empowerment and job creation. Shedding tears is not a sign of weakness.”
“You are shedding crocodile tears.” Muhammad Abba Kura however dismissed the appeal.
