Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has donated N50 million to the family of late Lt Col OC Okolo, who lost his life during a Boko Haram attack at Mandaragirau on February 16, 2026.
The governor, represented by his Special Adviser on Security, Brigadier General Abdullahi Sabi Ishaq (Rtd), presented the donation during the funeral service held at Obinofia Ndiuno in Ezeagu on April 10, 2026.
Also in attendance were Brigadier General G A Suru, who represented the Chief of Army Staff, and Commander of the 25 Task Force Brigade, Brigadier General IP Omoke, representing the Theatre Commander of Operation HADIN KAI. Members of Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association and members of the host community also attended the ceremony.
The cash donation, made on behalf of the Borno State Government, is part of Governor Zulum’s continued support for families of fallen heroes and personnel wounded in action in the ongoing counter-insurgency operations across Borno State.
Governor Zulum, in a condolence message, described the late officer as a gallant, dedicated, and committed serviceman whose contributions to national security would not be forgotten. He prayed for the repose of his soul and asked God to grant the family the strength to bear the loss.
Speaking on behalf of the family, Prof. Stanley Okolo expressed appreciation to the governor for the gesture. He noted that the family was deeply touched by the donation and the delegation sent from Maiduguri despite the short notice.
He also thanked the Chief of Army Staff and the General Officer Commanding 82 Division for sending representatives to honour the late officer
