UN Pushes for Ceasefire Compliance

The United Nations has called on all sides involved in the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran to strictly observe the ceasefire agreement.

The News Chronicle gathered that the UN Secretary-General António Guterres, through his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, emphasized the need for restraint and adherence to international obligations.

He stated that Guterres “calls on all the parties to the current conflict in the Middle East to comply with their obligations under international law and to abide by the terms of the ceasefire in order to pave the way toward a lasting and comprehensive peace in the region.”

Dujarric further noted that although the temporary two-week truce is a welcome development, the UN chief remains deeply concerned about the humanitarian impact of the conflict. He stressed that Guterres “underscores that an end to hostilities is urgently needed to protect civilian lives and alleviate human suffering.”

The conflict has also drawn in Israel, which is actively engaged alongside both the United States and Iran.

The ceasefire deal between Washington and Tehran was reached just hours before a deadline issued by U.S. President Donald Trump, which was set to expire at 0000 GMT on Wednesday.

Trump, in a post on Truth Social, described Iran’s proposed 10-point framework as a “workable basis” for further negotiations.
