The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has underscored the importance of discipline and combat readiness as indispensable pillars for the success of the Nigerian Army’s operations.
Shaibu made the assertion during an operational tour of the 33 Artillery Brigade at Shadawanka Barracks in Bauchi, where he addressed officers and soldiers on the core values expected of military personnel.
He emphasised that discipline must remain the bedrock of military service, insisting that the behaviour and actions of troops should consistently demonstrate integrity, professionalism, and accountability.
“Take pride in what you are doing; your actions must reflect discipline and integrity, not just in words but in conduct,” he said.
The Army Chief urged personnel to regularly assess their performance and ensure it aligns with their assigned duties, noting that strict compliance with laid-down procedures and proper documentation are crucial for operational efficiency.
Highlighting the need for constant preparedness, Shaibu charged troops to remain vigilant and ready to tackle evolving security threats at any time.
“You have been equipped with knowledge and capability, it is important that you understand how to use them effectively,” he said.
He further encouraged soldiers to fully utilise their training and available resources to enhance effectiveness in the field.
Shaibu also praised troops deployed in harsh and remote environments for their unwavering commitment, describing their efforts as critical to safeguarding national security.
He tasked Commanding Officers with providing strong and purposeful leadership, ensuring that troops remain focused, alert, and adequately prepared for future operations.
The COAS concluded by stressing that effective communication and a clear understanding of the operational environment are vital components for achieving mission success.
