Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has said he could effectively govern Nigeria even from Kaduna, stressing that leadership is not limited by location.
Speaking on Sunday during a meeting with African Democratic Congress stakeholders in Kaduna, Obi noted that the short distance between Abuja and Kaduna makes it easy for a president to carry out official duties from either city. He said the journey takes less than two hours and would not affect governance.
The former Labour Party presidential candidate described his visit as part of ongoing nationwide consultations to engage political leaders and assess the mood ahead of future elections.
He commended stakeholders in Kaduna for their commitment, saying their focus was on service rather than personal ambition.
Obi also highlighted Kaduna’s strategic importance, recalling its past role as a centre for industry, agriculture, and commerce. He expressed confidence that disciplined and people-oriented leadership could restore the state’s economic strength.
He further warned that division among Nigerians remains a major obstacle to development, urging unity, justice, and inclusiveness as pathways to peace and progress.
During his consultations, Obi also visited Kano, where he met with former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and members of the Kwankwasiyya movement as part of efforts to build consensus ahead of the 2027 elections.
