According to reports, operatives of the Nasarawa State Police Command have foiled a brazen kidnapping attempt along the Lafia–Akwanga Highway, reinforcing ongoing efforts to clamp down on criminal activity and secure the state.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Lafia, revealing that the breakthrough was achieved by a patrol team from the Nassarawa Eggon Division.
During a fierce gun battle, the operatives neutralised a suspected kidnapper, identified as Auta Habu of Ruga Fulani in Gidan Waya, Nassarawa Eggon LGA, while other members of the gang fled into the surrounding bush, likely with gunshot wounds.
“The highway has been cleared and is now safe for motorists and other road users,” the police spokesperson confirmed.
Nansel added that a manhunt is underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious movements to security agencies.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, reaffirmed the Command’s unwavering resolve to protect lives and property, vowing that criminal elements will find no safe haven in the state.
