Remain Indoors– US Embassy Issues Security Alert to Citizens in Abuja Over Potential Iran-Linked Protests

The United States Embassy in Abuja has issued a stern security warning to its citizens in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), urging them to remain indoors amid fears of protests tied to the ongoing US-Iran conflict.

In a statement released Wednesday, March 4, 2026, the embassy cautioned that “there is a high potential for protests in Abuja today… Due to the current conflict with Iran.” It also reminded Americans of past demonstrations that escalated into violent clashes with Nigerian security forces.

The embassy advised citizens to avoid crowds, stay vigilant in public spaces such as shopping centers, cinemas, and places of worship, and maintain a low profile.

Recommended safety measures include:

  • Steering clear of protest areas and large gatherings.

  • Staying alert and aware of surroundings.

  • Keeping phones charged and carrying proper identification.

  • Varying travel routes and times to reduce predictability.

  • Familiarizing oneself with emergency exits in buildings.

The Consular Sections in Abuja and Lagos remain operational, and citizens are encouraged to monitor the embassy’s website for updates.
