17 Nabbed as NDLEA Storms Kano Drug Havens

In a sweeping offensive that sent shockwaves through notorious hotspots, the Kano Strategic Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has rounded up 17 suspects and confiscated a cache of illicit substances under its special enforcement drive, “Operation Ramadan Mubarak.”

The State Commander, Mr. Dahiru Yahaya-Lawal, made this known in a statement released in Kano by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Sadiq Muhammad-Maigatari.

The operation, he explained, was designed to cleanse the state of narcotics during the sacred month, ensuring that Ramadan is observed in peace rather than polluted by crime.

“Our operatives carried out intelligence-driven raids at strategic locations across Kano, including Race Course, Dan’agundi, Filin Mahaha, Kano Zoological Garden, Farm Centre by Zaria Road and Tashar Rami Na’ibawa.

“The coordinated operations led to the arrest of 17 suspects allegedly involved in drug-related activities.

“The items recovered during the raids included assorted illicit substances such as methamphetamine, popularly known as Ice, cannabis sativa, Exol-5, diazepam and rubber solution,” he said.

From the bustling Race Course to the shadows of Dan’agundi and the ever-busy Farm Centre axis, operatives moved with precision, striking at the heart of drug distribution points. What they unearthed paints a troubling picture—hard drugs and controlled substances circulating beneath the surface while the faithful prepare for spiritual reflection.

Yahaya-Lawal noted that the haul underscores the Command’s unwavering determination to dismantle drug rings and choke the supply lines feeding addiction across the state.

He further stressed that the operation aligns with the directive of the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, retired Brig.-Gen. Mohamed Buba-Marwa, who has called for intensified nationwide enforcement to rid communities of narcotics.

Reaffirming the agency’s commitment, the commander assured residents that the crackdown would not be a flash in the pan but a sustained battle to keep Kano’s streets clean throughout Ramadan and beyond.

He also urged citizens to act as the agency’s eyes and ears, providing timely and credible intelligence to help stamp out the menace of illicit drugs before it spreads like wildfire.
