A disturbing case of grievous assault has been reported in Potiskum, Yobe State, where an 18-year-old housewife allegedly severed her husband’s manhood.
The State Police Command’s spokesman, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the incident in a statement released in Damaturu on Sunday.
He stated that the alleged act occurred in the early hours of February 6, around 1 a.m., but was not reported to the Potiskum Divisional Police Station until approximately 3 p.m. that same day.
According to the police, the suspect, who remains at large, used a sharp knife to inflict the injury before fleeing the scene.
“Following the report, police operatives promptly visited the scene and rushed the victim to the State Specialist Hospital, Potiskum, for urgent medical attention,” Mr. Abdulkarim said. “He was subsequently referred to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, where he is currently receiving treatment.”
The police spokesman confirmed that an investigation is ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspect and uncover the circumstances that led to the crime. He added that some sensitive details of the incident are being withheld to protect the victim from further trauma.
In response to the event, the State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the crime. He emphasised through the spokesman that marriage should be founded on mutual respect, understanding, patience, and tolerance.
“Marriage must never be an avenue for violence, abuse, or humiliation,” the commissioner stated.
