Lagos Lawmaker Switches Camps, Pitches Tent with ADC

The political tide has shifted in Lagos as Mrs. Foluke Osafile, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, has bid farewell to the Labour Party (LP) and embraced the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Osafile, who represents Amuwo-Odofin Constituency I and chairs the House Committee on Wealth Creation, confirmed the move on Saturday, putting paid to mounting speculations.

“Yes, it is true. I have defected to the ADC.”

Explaining her decision, the lawmaker said the change of platform was driven by her resolve to better serve her constituents and chart a more promising path for them.

“I pledge my full commitment to working with ADC leaders and stakeholders to advance the cause of good governance and effective representation.
“Together, we will strengthen our democratic institutions and ensure that the voices of ordinary Nigerians are heard and respected.
“To my constituents in Amuwo-Odofin Constituency-01, I reaffirm my unwavering loyalty to you. Your trust remains my guiding principle.
“I assure you that this step is taken to serve your interests better and secure a brighter future for our constituency,” she said.

Osafile is expected to formally declare her defection on the floor of the House during plenary in the coming days.

The lawmaker rode into the Assembly in 2023 on the platform of the Labour Party, defeating APC candidate, Segun Folorunso, by a comfortable margin. Her victory, however, did not come without a storm, as the APC challenged the outcome at the Election Petition Tribunal, which initially ruled against her.

Refusing to throw in the towel, Osafile took the battle to the Court of Appeal, where she turned the tables and reclaimed her mandate, finally closing the chapter on the legal tussle.
