The Anambra State Police Command has urged its personnel to remain courageous, focused, and professional, particularly during confrontations while on duty.
The advice was given on the third day of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Capacity Building Training and Workshop for officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, Anambra State Command.
The training focused on emotional intelligence, professionalism, tactical restraint, and appropriate response strategies during security operations and confrontational situations.
In a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, the Anambra State Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that officers and men exhibit the highest level of professionalism, discipline, and ethical conduct while carrying out their duties, even in the face of provocation or heightened security threats.
According to SP Ikenga, participants at the training were equipped with practical and operational strategies for remaining calm under pressure, de-escalating tense and volatile situations, and making sound, lawful, and timely decisions in the line of duty.
“These measures,” he said, “are aimed at strengthening public confidence in the police while also ensuring the safety of officers, civilians, and critical infrastructure.”
He further stated that the Command emphasized that true courage in policing is not demonstrated solely through the use of force, but through composure, emotional control, discipline, and respect for the sanctity of human life.
Officers were reminded that professional conduct, intelligence-led responses, and adherence to rules of engagement are critical to effective policing and sustainable security outcomes.
The Command reiterated its resolve to continue capacity-building initiatives that enhance operational effectiveness, promote human rights compliance, and improve the overall security architecture of Anambra State.
