Fire Outbreak Destroys Property at Girls’ Secondary School in Kano

A fire outbreak has razed parts of Government Girls Junior and Senior Secondary School (GGJASS), Kaleku, in Damagari town, Rogo Local Government Area of Kano State, destroying learning materials, chairs and important documents.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, January 20, 2026.

According to reports obtained by The News Chronicle, the fire started as a result of refuse burning behind the school premises, which later spread into several classrooms.

Information gathered revealed that all items affected by the fire were completely destroyed, leaving the school in a difficult situation.

Residents of the area were able to control the fire through collective efforts, using water and sand to prevent it from spreading further.

No casualties or injuries were recorded during the incident, but the fire caused significant damage to school property.
